The Cold War Overview

The Cold War was a war between the USA and the USSR. The USA and the USSR were once allies in WW2 but when Berlin was split into four sections relations between the two countries became rough. The Cold War started in 1945 and ended in 1991. The main issue of the war was communism. The USSR was trying to spread its communist influence throughout the world and the USA was trying to contain communism in the USSR. America's foreign policy at that time was called containment. The USA wanted to spread democracy throughout the world and did not want communism to dominate the world. The Cold War was fought in Europe in Stalin's territory. During the Cold War Stalin was the leader of the USSR and Harry S. Truman was the USA's first Cold War president. President Eisenhower took over after Harry S. Truman.
