The Aswan Dam In Egypt

The USA and Britain helped to sponser the Aswan dam in Eygpt. The dam was to go along the Nile River to help people. There was almost a silent agreement that Britain and the USA would support hte project as long as Egypt did not fall to communism. The leader of Egypt at the time was Gamal Abdel Nasser. Nasser decided at this time to associate himself more with the USSR and communist countries. The USA did not like him being friendly with our enemies. The USA and Britain pulled off their funding for the dam project and this angered Nasser greatly. He turned around and took control of the Suez Canal which although it was located in Egypt, it belonged to France and Great Britain. During this time, Egypt also made enemies with Isreal after they kept making terrorist raids into their country. All furious with Egypt, Isreal, Breat Britain, and France teamed up to attack Egypt. The USSR responed to the attack by trying to defend their ally and they wante dto send bombs at Great Britain and France. This threat was taking things too far and the UN decided to interfere. The UN imposed a cease-fire and got the action stopped.
